If you want to take backup of your HTC phone then here is the complete guide to use this feature for Android 5,6,7 and 8. Also if you backed up your old phone using HTC Backup, you can restore your saved backup to your new HTC phone. Note that restoring a backup will overwrite the current data and settings on the HTC phone. Depending on the amount of content, restoring your backup to your phone through your data connection may incur additional data costs and take a long time.
Before you begin you need a smooth Wi-Fi connection. Also to restore paid apps, you need to download and install them via the Google Play Store app. After you’ve finished setting up your new HTC phone, slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap the Transfer or restore your content notification.
You can also go to Settings, and then tap System or Backup & reset. Then tap Restore from HTC Backup. If your phone is preloaded with Android 6 or later version, you’ll be prompted to download the HTC Restore app. Install and open this app, and then tap Restore from HTC Backup. If the HTC Account screen appears, sign in using the same account that you used to back up your old phone and your backup history will then be displayed.
Guide to HTC Backup for Android 5 Lollipop and earlier
Older HTC phone models that have Android 5 Lollipop and earlier still support the HTC Backup service.

- Back up your accounts and passwords which means all the stored login credentials for your email and social accounts such as exchange Active Sync, Outlool and POP/IMAP can be backed up.

- You can also back up your device settings including ringtones, Wi Fi networks and their passwords.
Simply go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
If this is your first time to set up and use HTC Backup, tap Backup account > HTC Account.
Log in to your HTC Account by using your Google, Facebook, or email account. Then choose the cloud storage account you want to use for backing up your phone.
Tap Back up now to manually back up your phone.
It’s recommended you do a daily backup of your phone when it’s connected to a Wi-Fi network. Just turn on automatic backup.
Guide to backing up your HTC phone to your computer
When you do a backup of your HTC phone, HTC Sync Manager names the backup file using the phone model. All you need is to connect your phone to your computer.
- In HTC Sync Manager, click Home > Transfer & Backup.
- Under Backup and Restore, choose whether to include media content from your phone in the backup. Or choose whether to always back up your phone whenever you connect it to your computer.
- Click Back up now.
- If this is your first time to back up your phone, choose whether to set a password for the backup file. Enter and confirm your password, and then click OK.
Note that HTC Sync Manager will no longer be supported in HTC Desire 12, HTC Desire 12+, HTC U12+, and later phone models.
Guide to back up HTC Android 6 or 7 phone
If you have an HTC phone that’s running Android 6 or 7, use your Google Account to back up your phone to Google Drive.

- Contacts and call history in the People app, Clock and Weather city list, and email accounts in the Mailapp, if these HTC apps are preloaded on your phone.

- Back up your device settings like Ringtones, Wi-Fi networks and their passwords, and certain device settings.
Go to Settings, and then tap Backup & reset.
- Then Tap Back up my data.
- Tap the On/Off switch to turn Auto Backup on, and then press your phone’s BACK button.
- Make sure Automatic restore is turned on.
- This allows an app’s data and settings to be restored when you reinstall the app on another phone.
Auto Backup periodically backs up your phone to a private folder in Google Drive. It occurs every 24 hours when the phone is idle, charging , and connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Note that Backup data will not count towards your Google Drive storage quota. Large files or files that app developers have chosen to exclude from the service will not be backed up.
Guide to back up HTC Android 8 phone
On HTC phones running Android 8, here’s what can be backed up to Google Drive using your Google Account.

Apps installed through Google Play and app data and settings like call history, SMS text messages, Google Calendar and Gmail settings, Data that’s synced to your Google Account such as Google contacts and calendar events, Data in HTC apps, such as contacts in the People app that you saved on the phone, Clock and Weathercity list, and email accounts in the Mail app and Data and settings in third-party apps you installed, depending on whether these apps allow this.
Also back up your device settings like Ringtones, Wi-Fi networks and their passwords, and certain device settings.
Remember to back up SMS messages on a phone, such as HTC 10, that was updated from Android 6 to 7 and then to Android 8, you need to remove your Google Account—the one that you use as your backup account—and sign in to this account again.
Follow the steps below to back up an HTC phone that’s preinstalled with Android 8.
- Go to Settings, and then tap System > Backup.
- Make sure Back up to Google Drive is turned on.
- Use the primary Google Account that you signed into on your phone as your backup account.
- Or tap Backup account to add or select another Google Account and use it for backing up.
- Tap App data, and then check that Automatic restore is turned on.
